The reports said growth. The business was seeing the opposite.
Clayton’s was paying for SEO, Google Ads and website support, but performance was moving backwards.
Website traffic had fallen by 55% over five months. Paid campaigns were producing large volumes of traffic while conversion rates dropped below 1%, and the reporting did not clearly explain what was generating real enquiries.
The business was spending heavily without having reliable data or a clear view of what needed to change.
Traffic was falling, spend was being wasted and the tracking was wrong.
What we found
- Website sessions had fallen by 55%
- Conversion rates had dropped below 1%
- Ecommerce data was being counted twice
- Reported conversions did not match GA4
- Irrelevant searches were using the budget
- Organic visibility was sitting around page three
- Broad campaigns were driving low-value traffic
- Product journeys were difficult to follow
SEO, Google Ads and the website were being treated separately
Fix the data first. Then fix what was wasting money.
We removed the duplicate tracking setup, cleaned up outdated tags and corrected the conversion measurement.
Once the data could be trusted, we reviewed the Google Ads account and paused the campaigns, keywords and search terms that were not producing valuable enquiries.
Budget was redirected towards the product lines that were converting, including tote, jute and calico bags.
We also simplified the website navigation, improved the product paths and strengthened the pages customers were reaching through Google Ads and organic search.
The work included
- Removing outdated and conflicting tags
- Pausing low-performing campaigns
- Cutting irrelevant keywords and search terms
- Refocusing spend on converting product categories
- Simplifying the website navigation
- Improving product and enquiry pathways
- Improving the SEO structure
- Providing direct and consistent reporting
Google Ads, SEO, tracking and the website were managed as one connected system.
Less spend. More leads. Numbers they can trust.
Clayton’s now receives more enquiries from its Google Ads, pays less for each conversion and has data that can be used to make confident decisions.
The website is easier to navigate, organic visibility has improved and the business is less reliant on paying for every click.
